Pender Harbour Community School Society

MISSION
Collaborate with individuals and groups to sustain a vibrant healthy community by offering a variety of learning and skills development opportunities and direct support services, in response to the expressed needs of the community.

WHAT WE DO
At the heart of our work are the students of Pender Harbour Elementary-Secondary and Madeira Park Elementary schools.

We offer support services to students and families, breakfast & nutrition programs, and a variety of after-school programs (such as Kindersoc, Art Class, Fishing Club, Garden Club, & summer and ProD day camps). Drop-in sports nights for youth and adults run throughout the school year.
We provide programs and services to the greater community through the SCRD Area A Community Recreation Program by offering educational, recreational, and social opportunities, certification courses and special presentations (on topics ranging from Pickleball to Digital Cameras, from Computer Cafe to Grant Writing).
We coordinate the Youth Restitution Program for Pender Harbour/Area A in conjunction with Sunshine Coast RCMP and BC Youth Justice Service Department to provide supervision and guidance, direct support, education, and referral services to youth and community members involved in restitution.

We also operate the Harbour Learning Centre where we have a community-use room, computer lab and a job board, and where we offer community information & referrals.  We participate on various regional youth and educational committees (e.g., Roots of Empathy and Youth Outreach Worker programs).
HOW WE ARE FUNDED
As a non-profit society, we are primarily funded through SD46, SCRD, Province of BC and various project grants. We are also grateful for and reliant on the generous support of donations and volunteers from our community whose contributions help to fill in the gaps.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Be a part of your Community School! Share your skills and teach a class, facilitate a sports program, join the Board, make a program suggestion, attend a class, be a tutor, drop in and participate.
